The UCC3956DW is an integrated circuit (IC) component designed by Texas Instruments. It is a lithium-ion battery protector and supervisor that offers various key features for battery management applications. One of the significant features of the UCC3956DW is its ability to protect the lithium-ion battery from overcharging, overdischarging, and overcurrent conditions. It monitors the battery voltage and prevents it from going beyond safe levels, ensuring the battery's longevity and safety. The IC component also incorporates an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) feature that prevents the battery from being discharged to extremely low levels, which could result in permanent damage. It monitors the battery voltage to detect undervoltage conditions and cuts off the battery load to prevent further discharge. Additionally, the UCC3956DW comes with a built-in overcurrent protection circuitry that safeguards the battery and the system from excessive current flow. The current flowing through the battery pack is continuously monitored, and if it exceeds the predefined threshold, the IC component cuts off the load to prevent damage. To enhance its functionality, the UCC3956DW supports a smart battery communication interface called the System Management Bus (SMBus). This enables the IC to communicate with the battery charger or the host system, providing crucial information about the battery status, charge level, and other relevant parameters. The IC component also incorporates a thermal shutdown feature, which ensures that the battery operates within safe temperature limits
