Description (v) Features
The SN74S280N is an integrated circuit component that belongs to the family of SN74S280 series of 9-bit parity generator/checker. It is primarily used to generate odd or even parity for a 9-bit binary input and perform parity checking to identify any errors in the received data. The key features of the SN74S280N include: 1. Parity Generation: The SN74S280N is capable of generating either odd or even parity for a 9-bit input sequence. It counts the number of '1' bits in the input and generates a parity bit accordingly. 2. Parity Checking: In addition to parity generation, the SN74S280N can also verify the integrity of received data. It compares the received 9-bit input with the expected parity and indicates whether an error is present or not. 3. 9-Bit Input and Output: The component accepts a 9-bit binary input, which includes 8 data bits and 1 parity bit. Similarly, it provides a 9-bit output, consisting of the original 8 data bits and an additional bit indicating the parity status. 4. Cascadable: Multiple SN74S280N components can be cascaded together to create larger parity generators/checkers. By connecting the outputs of one chip to the inputs of another, it is possible to handle larger data sizes while maintaining the same functionality
